First of all before I get into the details of how this type of contest works I feel I must again remind you that the whole purpose of this blog and these contests is simply to spread the word about world community grid. In type 1 youtube contest two or more copies of the same prize are given away. Only 1 prize will be given for the comment part of the contest. 1 or more prizes will be given to wcg team members that participate. Contests will be launched early in the month and will be over on the last day of that month. There are two ways you can get a chance to win. The first way is to comment on the video using the text “my entry”. You must use this text and it must be in English. I have to do this to make it easier for me to track participation. You may only use 1 comment per youtube account. If you spam multiple entries I may disqualify you. At the end of the contest period I will use random.org to choose the winner. This site allows me to add up to 10k lines of text that can then be randomly sorted to choose a winner. Try the script for yourself. I think it’s the best way to do contests that have large numbers of participants. The comment part of these contests are the easiest way to win so I expect you to sub the endthedisease channel and thumb up the videos. You also need to favorite the video. If you win the contest this way and I see you have not done this I will disqualify you.
The second way to win is to join team endthedisease after you download the wcg software. Complete 5 work units and then submit your team name in a comment. If you have a fast computer you can finish 5 work units in 24 hours. Even an older system can do this in 2-3 days. Every 5 work units you do counts as 1 entry. So if you do 100 work units you get 20 entries. The more work you do the more chances you have of winning so get the program on every computer you own. If you are trying to win this way you do not need to sub my channel or really do anything else, you are fulfilling the purpose of this channel and are a part of the scientific research that will lead to many great things in the future. I consider you to be my true friends and I don’t expect anything else from you. However I do need to build my channel and I need help spreading the word through social media so if you can find the time please share my videos and this blog post on your facebook or tweet it.
Some added details. You can win on more than one contest if I have 2 or more videos running in a month but you cannot win both the comment and wcg contest on the same video. Why would you need two copies of Harry Potter part 7 - part 2 anyway.
If your account gets banned I will not send you your prize. In other words if I click on your channel and I’m blocked or I see your channel is gone I’m not going to honor your win. Don’t be a spammer and don’t break youtubes TOS.

My only motivation for doing them is to spread the word about wcg so we can further the cause of science and make the world a better place to live in. There will be new contests every month. Don’t get discouraged if you don’t win. Just keep entering every month. Trust me you will win sooner than you think.
I Need Your Help: World Community Grid has been around for at least 7 years and yet there are less than 2 million computers worldwide that are running this program. When you consider that there are close to a billion computers on the planet that is just a drop in the bucket. WCG does real science. There have been over 30 peer reviewed scientific papers published from this research. The findings are available for all scientists to use and no money is made from the research. just watch this video. WCG has actually been a part of many discoveries and treatments in cancer and AIDS research in the last 10 year.
I’m sure most people reading this have heard of the Watson supercomputer that beat out the top competitors on the TV game show jeopardy. The scientists behind that project gave half of their winnings to world community grid. I think it says something that they have such faith in the future of the program.
Let me assure you that I am not doing this to grow my youtube channel or to make money. To be honest I hate making youtube videos. I hate the way my voice sounds on a mic and I hate editing videos. I can’t stand being in front of a camera. I really hope in the future that this channel will become a community channel where I can have others users hosting my contests. They will make the videos and I will upload them to my channel. when it comes time to do the drawing they will do it on their channel. this will build trust among all participants and I hope it will benefit other users more than me. For me youtube is just a tool to accomplish something that will be good for everyone. Unfortunately that means I have to gain subs and I have to ask for likes and tweets.

This is my first series of monthly youtube contests. Please remember that the main purpose of these contests is to spread the word about world community grid and to gain members to my team so we can help find cures to many human diseases. Be sure to spread these videos through social media. Hit the thumbs up button on youtube and add them to your favorites. Also hit the share links. Share this on facebook and twitter. Like the video and give it a 1+ on google. You can also help me get some views to my wcg mirror channel here. There are two ways you can win one of these videos.
The first way is to comment on each video using the text “my entry”. You can type whatever you like in the comment box but you must add the text “my entry to whatever you post so I can weed out the comments from people that actually want to win from those that are just trying to talk with me or ask questions. You can only enter once with one comment for each youtube account. To win by comment you must also subscribe to my channel, thumb up the video you are commenting on and add it you your favorites. You may enter by comment in each youtube video I make so it is possible that you could win more than once. The winner will be drawn at random using this list randomizer. I believe this is the easiest way to deal with large numbers of entries and the fairest way to pick a winner.
The second way to win is to join my world community grid team. Click through this link and download the program then click back through after you have it running and click the join this team button. You are now running a program that lets you use your computer as a scientific research tool. You’re actually crunching data that will help scientists find cures for diseases as well as find organic materials that absorb energy more efficiently than current solar panels. After you have the program running just complete 5 work units on your computer and then comment on the video with your world community grid team member name. You will then have an entry. You must do this for every video if you want to be entered into each contest. The winner will be chosen at random just like above. If you win the comment only part of the contest you are not eligible for the wcg contest and vice versa.
The contests will end on December 31, 2011. Youtube comments will be turned off after this date and the drawing will be made on another youtube video. The winners will be contacted through a pm.
